Skin disease is a common disease in both dogs and cats. Skin disease can by a result of many different diseases from external parasites, immune–mediated issues, Infections, physical/ environmental, hereditary and developmental, allergies to food or their environment and a result of a serious systemic (internal) disease

Sometimes diagnosis of a skin disease is a simple process requiring just an examination. Other times diagnosis requires extensive diagnostics such as blood work, urinalysis, skin biopsies, skin scraping or elimination trials.

Often pets affected with skin problems are not presented to their vet until there is secondary disease present, which can delay or even prevent the diagnostic process.
