Puppies/Kittens Nutrition

It’s easy to get confused or overwhelmed by all the pet foods on the market. We can help you weed through the choices and find a puppy or kitten food that will meet your growing pet’s nutritional needs. We even carry nutritionally balanced, veterinary-approved brands in our clinic.

It is extremely important that puppies and kitten are fed the proper food as they are growing and their organs, muscles, bones, joints and brains are developing. It is also very important that puppies and kitten receive the proper nutrients for growth but not become overweight during their development. Overweight puppies have a higher risk of joint problems during their growth period and into their adulthood and senior years.

Eating habits are also developed during kitten and puppy hood so it is important to teach your pet to eat wisely by feeding the proper foods, and treats. Avoiding obesity and their related diseases is far easier than dealing with an overweight pet.

The choice of kitten/puppy food can drastically affect your pet’s future health.

Feel free to ask us for a food recommendation or to contact us with any nutrition questions or concerns you might have.

Proper nutrition aids brain development, proper bone, joint, and muscle growth, promotes improved immune function and helps avoid obesity. The choice of food involves much more than what looks good on the bag or taking the advice of an untrained individual. Many of the “premium pet foods” have no scientific testing or research behind them. In fact, several of the top selling, popular expensive foods on the market follow a philosophy that can create health problems in our pets.

As well as a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. O’Grady also has an undergraduate degree which encompassed four years of training in animal nutrition which provided her with a strong understanding of what your puppy needs for proper growth and development.
